Meet the Team

Dr Brendan Murphy

Dr Brendan Murphy graduated from Medicine UCD in 2008 and completed both Medical Membership Examinations and General Practice Membership Examinations (from Midlands ICGP scheme). He has a keen interest in Sport and obtained a Masters in Sport & Exercise Medicine from UCC, subsequently completing the International Olympic Committee Diploma in Sports Medicine and the FIFA Diploma in Football Medicine. Dr Murphy played Inter County Senior Hurling for 13 years and is a former Captain of the Offaly Senior Hurling Team. He also served as Tipperary Senior Hurling Team Doctor for 7 seasons and was involved with the All-Ireland victories of 2016 and 2019. Dr Brendan has committed to the role once again for the 2024 season.

Dr Claire Brennan

Dr Claire Brennan graduated from Medicine UCD in 2008 and completed the Midlands GP training programme, obtaining membership of ICGP in 2014. She has undertaken further postgraduate training in menopause care and women’s health. Dr Brennan is fully trained in the insertion of long-acting contraceptives, LARCs (marina coil and implants). She also has a special interest in skin conditions and has recently obtained a Masters in Clinical Dermatology with distinctions from the University of Hertfordshire, U.K. Complementing the Masters in Dermatology, Dr Brennan also has training in aesthetic medicine including anti-wrinkle injections and fillers.

Dr Niamh Barrett

Dr Niamh Barrett graduated from medicine in UCD in 2005 and initially worked in obstetrics and gynaecology for 10 years. She worked in the Coombe Hospital, the Rotunda and the National Maternity Hospital, Holles Street in Dublin. During her time in Holles Street she worked as a lecturer, teaching UCD students. She is a member of both the Irish and UK Colleges of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. She also worked in Melbourne for 4 years as a senior registrar in obstetrics and gynaecology and lecturer in Monash University. She returned to Ireland and completed her training in general practice in the Midlands in 2020. Dr Barrett is an experienced LARC (Mirena, copper coil and Implanon) inserter and is also a LARC tutor. She also has an interest in paediatrics and has completed the Diploma in Children’s Health in the UK through the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health. Dr Barrett has a keen interest in medical education and is completing a masters in UL. She works as an assistant scheme director with the Midlands GP scheme and a tutor in obstetrics and gynaecology with the Royal College of Physicians in Dublin.

Practice Nurse – Aoife Corcoran O’ Dwyer

In 1996 Aoife commenced her studies in General Nursing in Portiuncula Hospital/NUIG. Once graduated as a Nurse she moved to Dublin to work in the Mater Hospital and commenced her degree in General Nursing in DCU. While working in the Mater, Aoife gained three valuable years of experience on ENT, colorectal and gynaecology wards. After that, she commenced her higher Diploma in Midwifery at UCD. Aoife subsequently worked as a midwife in the Coombe for ten very enjoyable years. After starting her family, she decided to move home to Birr for a better work life balance. She was then offered a part time position here in Murphy Medical as Practice Nurse. Aoife is with us just over ten years now and enjoys the varied nursing that it provides and has a keen interest in Antenatal/postnatal Care.

Administration Team

Our Administration team of Alison, Geraldine and Cathal have between them years of experience across a broad range of disciplines.

They are diligent, conscientious, and professional. Our administration team are always on hand to give you a warm reception and to assist in the smooth running of our practice.
